From the period between November 2020 to February 2021 the Magistrates Commission (the Commission), in particular, the Appointments Committee (the Committee) conducted interviews for entry-level magistrates and Head of Office positions (HOO). The interviews sought to fill 148 vacancies in the magistrate’s courts around the country. Approximately 481 candidates were interviewed by the Committee. The interviews were very lengthy, so Magistrates Matter was unable to attend all interviews and only attended the interviews conducted in November 2020 and in January 2021. Magistrates Matter has found it prudent to provide some insight into the Committees’ interview proceedings. In doing so, a series of synopsis for each day attended has been compiled, which considers one or two specific highlights for the day. In addition to the synopsis Magistrates Matter has put together a recording of the interviews conducted in the period between 11 November and 21 November 2020 only.
